Membership Rules
THE BYE-LAW OF GRESHAMS SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB LIMITED, 2005 ("THE CLUB")
GROUNDS AND CLUBHOUSE [01 - 02]
01. The grounds and clubhouse shall be open to members and visitors daily between the hours of 10.00am and 11.00pm, except for such periods as may be necessary for the purpose of cleaning, repairing or staff holidays.
02. The grounds and clubhouse shall be closed on such occasions as the committee may from time to time determine, with as much advance notice of closure being given as possible.
USE OF GROUNDS AND PREMISES [03 - 05]
03. The club may from time to time allocate the use of the whole or part of the club grounds and premises for such purposes and over such periods as it thinks fit and on such occasions members and their guests may be excluded from admission.
04. Notification of such occasions shall be by way of a notice displayed on the Club premises at least 24 hours before the commencement of such use.
05. The Club may hire the club premises or part to any member or other party upon such terms as the Club thinks fit.
CONDUCT BY MEMBERS [06 - 09]
06. The club shall not be responsible for any damage, injury or loss caused by the acts or omissions of any member or visitor. Any such member or visitor shall indemnify the Club against any liability for such damage, injury or loss.
07. The club shall not be responsible for any articles brought onto the Club premises by any member or visitor.
08. Members are not entitled to give instructions to Club staff as to the nature or performance of their duties and any such matters must be referred to the General Manager.
09. The conduct of Club staff shall in no case be made a matter of personal reprimand by any member.
SUGGESTIONS [10]
10.A suggestion book will be kept in the General Manager's Office. All suggestions, which must be signed by the member or members making them, will be carefully considered.
COMPLAINTS [11]
11. Complaints or suggestions regarding the domestic arrangements of the Club must be reported by letter or else verbally to the General Manager in his office during office hours, these being 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
On no account shall personal representations on such matters be made to the Chairman, any Director or General Manager in any public parts of the Club. No complaints shall be made personally to any member of staff of the Club.
NOTICES [12]
12. No paper or placard, written or printed, shall be put up in the Club without being previously authorised by the General Manager or approved deputy.
BAR COMMITTEE [13 - 16]
13. There shall be a committee ("the Bar Committee") appointed by the Directors and consisting of not less than 2 members being members of the board of Directors. If any member of the Bar Committee ceases to be a member of the board of Directors, they shall cease to be a member of the Bar Committee and another member of the board of Directors shall be appointed in their place. All full and life members of the Club, being of not less than 2 years standing, shall be capable of being elected to the Bar Committee.
14. The supply to the Club of intoxicating liquors and tobacco shall be under the sole control of the Bar
Committee, which shall arrange for their purchase on behalf of the Club and for their supply to members at such prices, as it shall from time to time determine.
15. No intoxicating liquors shall be supplied except to members and their guests on the Club premises, or sold to any person who is not a member. There may be admitted to the registered premises of the Club, persons other than members and their guests, who are bona fide members, officials, supporters of a visiting team or club or a visiting referee, umpire linesman or the like and, subject to any conditions attached to the License for the Club premises, intoxicating liquor may be sold or supplied to them by or on behalf of the Club for consumption on the Club premises but not elsewhere.
16. There is no rule 16.
PERMITTED HOURS [17]
17. No person shall at any time be entitled to receive at the expense of the Club (or for any member of the Club) any commission percentage or similar payment on or with reference to purchases of intoxicating liquor by the Club; nor shall any person directly or indirectly derive any pecuniary benefit from the supply of intoxicating liquor by or on behalf of the Club to members or guests or others so entitled apart from any benefit accruing to the Club as a whole and apart also from any benefit which a person derives indirectly by reason of the supply giving rise to or contributing to a general gain from the carrying on of the Club.
BREAKAGES [18]
18. At the discretion of the Directors, any breakage or damage to the property of the Club by a member or members guest shall be made good by the member.
LIABILITY [19]
19. While reasonable care will be taken, the Club does not undertake any responsibility
whatsoever for the loss or damage of the property of any kind belonging to members or their guests which may occur in or at the grounds and clubhouse. Small
articles may on application to the General Manager, be placed in his safe but entirely at the members' risk.
INDUCEMENT [20]
20. No member shall attempt to induce any Club employees to leave its employment.
VISITORS AND GUESTS [21 - 24]
21. Members may introduce up to four visitors to the Club as guests and any such persons shall be considered the guest of and be accompanied by the member introducing them at all times this whilst on the premises. However, this is provided that no person shall be introduced as a visitor into the Club who shall have been expelled from membership or whose conduct or presence on the Club premises shall be considered by the Directors objectionable or
prejudicial to the interests of the Club.
22. Guests may only accompany Members to the Club for Greshams functions up to four occasions within a 12 month period, subject to the relevant personal details being entered into the visitor’s book. Any guest wishing to use Greshams’ facilities on a more frequent occasion is encouraged to apply for membership in their own
right. However, under certain circumstances, Directors may consider exceptions to this rule on written application.
23. The Directors may from time to time fix the number of guests a member may introduce at any one time.
24. The member introducing a guest shall enter the name and permanent address of the guest, together with their own name in a book, which shall be kept on the Club premises.
CHILDREN [25 - 29]
25. For the comfort of all members, children (being persons under the age of 14 years) of members/guests shall be admitted to the Club premises provided that they remain at all times under the care and control of their parent or guardian. Under no circumstances may they remain in the club unaccompanied.
26. Children (being persons under the age of 14 years) of members shall also be permitted to use any of the
facilities of the Club, unless excluded by approved Section Rules, and subject to Bye-Law Number 35, provided that they remain at all times under the care and control of their parent or guardian.
27. All children are prohibited from approaching or playing any gaming machines.
28. The parent of guardian of the child shall be responsible for the conduct of the child while on the Club premises and shall be liable for any damage that the child causes.
29. Visitors shall have the like right to bring children onto the Club premises subject to the same terms and conditions as above.
PRIVATE PARTIES [30]
30. Private parties may be given in the Club premises under conditions regulated from time to time by the Directors. Arrangements must be made with the General Manager at least twenty-four hours previously. A charge for the use of the rooms shall be made as fixed by the Directors from time to time.
CARDS AND GAMES [31 - 32]
31. The Club may be used for cards, chess, draughts and backgammon and any other games of equal chance by all classes of members and their guests. It may also be reserved for meetings of the Directors and other meetings as sanctioned by the Directors.
32. The Directors shall have power to prohibit any games, which, in their opinion, are unlawful games, or the playing of, which would be injurious to the interests of the Club. The Directors may by bye-laws limit the points or stakes for all games.
